Non Executive Director
The Directors of SigmaCom also undertake NED (non executive director) appointments. Acceptance of an NED role will only happen after careful and thorough consideration and where it is strategically right for both parties. Typically we will provide one of two roles:
- Join a committee that is formed to provide an independent view which is separate and not accountable to the Executive Board
- Provide input and advice to the Executive Board on strategy and important operational decisions
The UK Governments report into the role of NED's concluded that both individuals and companies benefit from the deployment. Of course the requirements of each position may vary, so too may the reasons for hiring an NED, typically however we have found that:-
- An NED can often see opportunities in the market for the product or service which may have been ignored, dismissed or overlooked
- An NED can often determine risks in ways that the executive management team have missed
- An NED can see things from a different perspective
- An NED can bring vital sector experience and contacts
- An NED can challenge the 'industry norms' if a company selects an NED without their own industry knowledge
- A diplomatic NED can help highly entrepreneurial people focus on what is right for the business
- A dynamic NED can add that motivational spark and sense of urgency
- An NED provides a temporary solution during the search for a full time director
